Term 2 Week 4 Learning Log

(Monday)

Miss Marly and Mr Chua came into our class. Mr Chua returned out test results and we had a brief go-through of the test paper. Then he told us about our results for our Learning Log and daily assignments. After that, he left the class. Miss Marly took over the class and told us to push all of our tables and chairs all the way to the side and stand in the middle of the classroom with all the students evenly spaced out. After we had arranged ourselves, Miss Marly told us to close our eyes and imagine ourselves walking.

She then wanted to question ourselves on how we were walking when we had different emotions, And then, she taught us how to walk with heavy footsteps and light footsteps. Plus, we had to walk around in the space with speed ranging from speed 1 to speed 10. After that activity, we were told to form a big circle and then form groups of three each with a different race of student. Miss Marly then distributed a piece of paper which contained information on the activity we did that day. Miss Marly then went through it and told us that the play we are doing to do would be graded for our CA marks. Before the bell rang she told us to hand in our March holiday assignment, the love brochure.

(Friday)

Miss Marly came in and carried on with our acting lessons, She then called upon the even numbers to come up and stand in the space which was our 'stage' and told us to walk with the speed of 1 and the speed of 10 while trying not to bump into each other. Then it was the odd numbers turn. This time they had to walk around in the space using light ans heavy steps. after that we had some volunteers like Wei Xiang. Actually, he was not volunteering, Miss Marly called him to act how he walked to school in the morning and things like that. Then Miss Marly thanked Wei Xiang and wrote something on the white board, she wrote, "Child, Gangster, Grandmother" We were all very puzzled on what on what did she mean by that. Miss Marly then explained that we had to choose a character and had to act out the way they are walking. We had to change our character every time Miss Marly told us to, after that interesting activity, before the bell rang, Miss Marly then told us to arrange our tables back to normal and breifed us on the worksheet she gave us last week. the bell then rang and it was time for the next lesson.

Term 2 Week 3 Learning Log

~ Monday ~

Miss Marly came into our class for our literature lesson and taught us about ‘Romeo and Juliet’. And so we are still learning about that play. She then gave us a piece of handout about sonnet. It was about some phrase that Romeo had described Juliet. Miss Marly then explained those phrases to us and we were supposed to write down what it meant. But as usual, our class is very noisy and so the lesson had to be paused for a while for the class to resume. And so, this leads us to not being able to finish that piece of handout. Miss Marly said that the piece of handout is important and she had to explain it clearly to us. Miss Marly told us to bring it next lesson so that she can finish explaining it to us.

~ Friday ~

Same as the last lesson, Miss Marly came into our class and we continued on that handout. After we were done with it, we passed the handout back to Miss Marly for marking. Miss Marly then gave us a new worksheet that was something related to ‘Love’. Then Miss Marly gave us instructions to fold the paper into 3 parts so that we would know which was the front page and the last page. Then we had a short activity that was to find 5 girls and 5 boys. And for that activity, we had to ask each girl and boy what qualities they wanted to have in their future partners. So, we went around and asked lots of students. :] Each of them had different qualities and it was interesting to know what every one wanted in their future partner. ^^
After we had completed, all of us went back to our seats and Miss Marly called students and asked them those qualities, which one they thought was their favourite. So not all of us were called, just a few students so we would not waste our time on questioning every one of us. One of the students was Regine (Sorry again Regine… I have to do my homework). Regine stood up and looked through her list and suddenly shouted out, “Zhi Xin, trustworthy.” Then everybody turned their heads and looked at me. I was really shy and quite scared, so I looked at Miss Marly and hoped that she would give some other instructions so that my classmates would stop looking at me. But luckily, Miss Marly had something else to explain to us. It was about the words and meaning of ‘Love’ for the Greeks. There are ‘Eros’, ‘Philia’ and ‘Agape’. ‘Eros' is the lowest level for love which means, ‘Passionate love or longing’, ‘Philia’ is the second level for love which means, ‘Brotherhood and friendship. Involves loyalty to friends, family and community’ and ‘Agape’ is the highest level for love, and it means, ‘A divine, unconditional and self – sacrificing affection. The highest and purest form of love’. After we had filled in everything about the meaning of ‘Love’ for the Greeks, Miss Marly told us to finish the other question as our March holiday homework. The bell rang. Literature lesson ended.

Term 1 Week 9 Learning Log

*Monday*

On Monday, our trainee teacher, Miss Marly, came into our class, and taught us about Literature. She then told us to form groups of 4. My group members were Regine, Vivien, Putri and me. After everyone had their own group, Miss Marly then gave each group an envelope. The Envelope contained strips of one Shakespeare’s poem which, were not in order and Miss Marly wanted us to arrange them back in order. So all of us put our heads together and tried to solve it… Me and Vivien tried to peek at teacher’s answer (He he) and we only managed just 2 of the lines. But in the end, after we had squeezed our brain juice, we finally got it correct in the end. :] Then we were supposed to go back to our seats and then pass back the envelopes to Miss Marly. And so after that exercise, we were all given a piece of worksheet. It was about the poem which we had just arranged. And we are supposed to pass it up on this Friday.

*Wednesday* [Extra Lesson after school for the Play]

On Wednesday, we had to stay back after school to go to the library where we watched the play about The Merchant of Venice. This lesson started at 2.30 pm and our actual lesson ended at 1.45 pm. So my friends and I had a quick lunch and we had a few minutes of free time before we head to the library. Once we reached the Library, we saw that there were also 2 Thinking class there. Once everyone was in the library, Miss Marly grouped us up with some of the students in 2 Thinking. Then we were told to sit with our group mates at the table which she arranged. And so, at each table, there were 2 different worksheets that were enough for all of the group members. We were supposed to watch the play and then fill up all the questions in the paper. One of which we were supposed to think some questions which we think might come for the exam. So, after some group discussion, we manage to finish 2 of it with some answers and then Miss Marly wanted us to watch a short clip about the play of The Merchant Of Venice. And as for the other worksheet, we were supposed to fill them out with the character traits of Antonio, Bassanio, Shylock and Portia. But we were left with the explanations which we had to do it at home. Then suddenly, some of the students name was being called up. Those whos names were called had to stand up. I had my name called up and I was quite shocked. I look around frantically and saw that some of the people were standing up too. I don’t know what was happening so I tried asking a girl next to me. She didn’t know either. So, both of us stood there with our face nervous and a blank mind. But it turned out that we were being congratulated because we had updated our learning log till week 8. :] Those who had their name called up could go home and the rest had to stay back and have a talk with the teachers. So I was lucky. :]

*Friday*

We had our normal literature lesson as usual. But, this time we were told to line up outside in two’s, then Mr Chua and Miss Marly took us to block D level 4. There we had to find a partner and sit face to face with each other. But for those who did not finish their Questions and Answers, they had to go down the stairs and do it there. But, unfortunately for me, I did not finish the last question and I had to sit with the others at the staircase. So I missed the first round and had to go for the second round. My partner was Ann Gek and for the second round, the partner with the larger shoe size had to start off first. But Ann Gek let me start first as I wasn’t in the first round. So I started off with my first question. And then the second question. Ann Gek graded both of my questions ‘B’ as she thought that it’s quite possible that my question might come out for the common test. ^^
Those who had already finish asking their question had to stand up and move near the staircase and wait there. Me and Ann Gek were the second slowest, because we couldn’t make up our mind who to start questioning first. >.<>
